Yevgeniy (Jim) Kats is an Associate in the Litigation Group at Zeichner Ellman & Krause LLP, bringing extensive experience in all stages of litigation. His experience includes commencing lawsuits, managing discovery, drafting motions, and trials. Prior to joining Zeichner Ellman & Krause LLP, Jim honed his legal skills through diverse roles within the New York State Supreme Court, Kings County, Civil Term. He served as law clerk to New York State Supreme Court Justice Mark I. Partnow (Ret.), and to New York State Supreme Court Justice Carl J. Landicino, currently sitting as an Associate Justice, New York State Appellate Division, Second Department. He also served as an Associate Court Attorney in the Law Department. In these varying roles, Jim researched and drafted numerous proposed decisions, supervised oral arguments and case conferences, and actively participated in a multitude of jury and non-jury trials. Several decisions Jim helped draft were published in legal publications. Jim earned his B.A. in Political Science, with a minor in Business, from SUNY Buffalo in 2008, where he was a Dean’s List honoree. He completed his J.D. at Touro Law School in 2011, receiving the CALI Excellence for the Future Award. In 2009, Jim studied abroad in Berlin, Germany, where he attended the University of Potsdam School of Law. Outside of his professional life, Jim enjoys traveling and spending time with his wife, daughter, son, and their dog Louie. He is an avid Yankees, Jets, Rangers, and Knicks fan.
